Empowering Decisions: An Intro to Death Doulas and Life & End-of-Life Care Planning

June 21 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm

$35 – $45

When thoughts of our mortality sneak up on us, we’re more likely to push them aside then let them in and see where they take us. Or we limit our imaginings to our final farewell because planning an event feels easier than what leads up to it.  Imagine if we avoided planning for weddings or preparing to welcome a new baby into our lives?!

I’d like to challenge you to think into your mortality, be curious about it and how it might unfold for you and for your people.

In this workshop, I provide you a brave space to ask questions, explore options and learn how end-of-life in our world today can slip away from whatever hopes and imaginings we’ve had about it… If we don’t solidly plan for it and inform our people across our support spectrum, so our wishes are pragmatically actioned and honestly witnessed.

We’ll explore the role of a Death Doula, who we are and what we do. There are many names for the care we provide – though we’ve always existed, in almost every culture. We are members of your community who come around the dying, who honor their wishes and give them comfort as they near their transition. In a time when those closest to them may be overwhelmed with feelings of loss and grief, and they may struggle to be present during this part of life, a Death Doula will compassionately fill the care gap between medical teams and chosen caregivers. We bear witness to the sacredness of death, and with dignity, trust in the death process as it uniquely unfolds for each person.

What is Life & End-of-Life Care Planning? It’s more than creating a plan, it’s deep and emotional work that guides you towards setting your own intentions for your Life Care Plan – right now and into however your life continues to unfold. Our minds don’t know what our bodies will do – our health as we age, if we’ll face a chronic illness or serious diagnosis, how many years we’ll live this one, precious life. What we can do is talk about what those changes and challenges may look like and how we’d like to meet them. Access to information, knowledge to make informed decisions and insights into how to navigate our systems are crucial to ensuring you receive integrative and personalized end-of-life care.

These conversations and our decisions empower us to find the care we want and the platform to do it in community.
